Gumnuts and handcarts............

I finished off some gumnuts that I had previously been working on!

And a friend came to call bearing gifts - one of which was a railway hand cart.  So much better than flowers!!  Rob does amazing work.  I will photograph some other stuff of his as soon as I have time and show them all off!

Isn't it a beauty?!  I've already got the basket made for it (in my head, that is)!!  Will get on to that one straight away (in my spare time of course!)

Hope you're all having a great week!

  4. The gumnuts are great. How big are they? The gumnuts around my house are tiny...only about 4mm big. The cart is a lovely piece, I can imagine it with lots of luggage as well as baskets. What a lovely gift. IndyPoppy

  11. Gumnuts are the seed containers for our glorious gum trees. They come in various shapes and sizes - some too large to use in anything miniature. Some are also tiny and too fiddely for me!! Not edible!!

  12. Oh, how cool! Thanks for teaching me something new. Does your friend Rob have a blog? I'd love to see more of his work.

    1. Unfortunately Rob does not have a blog - far too modest for that!!! But as promised, I will be showing more of his work soon - when I get back from KDF. Will be back in early June so you will all have to hold your breath!! Cheers - Lidi

  14. Hi Lidi,

I'm so glad to see someone putting Gum nuts to good use, I so often look at them and think they should be useful for something other than Gum nut Babies (as cute as they are) and you used them with incredible style.

    Robs trolly is amazing!

I will be looking out for you at the Sydney Fair....can't wait!

    1. Hi Fi - So sorry to say that I shan't be in Sydney this year. Last time I went to KDF I had a week between the drive back from the Sydney Show and our flight out, but this time there is only 1 day so I'm afraid I shall miss out on the excitement of the Sydney Miniatures Fair! Hope you have a great time there!! Cheers - Lidi

    2. Hi Lidi,

Well I wish I were in your shoes and going to the KDF instead of the Sydney one. I am however disappointed I wont see you at Sydney.......: (

Have a ball though, and I hope you sell HEAPS.....I know you will!

  15. Hi Lidi! I assume the gumnuts are hollowed out? The woven caps for them are quite smart looking! What would one store inside? I have never seen these before but I have heard about gum trees from the 'Kookaburra' song. I am so impressed with the trolly that you received and it is so much better than flowers! I look forward to your additions of the baskets, will they look like luggage?

  16. Hi Elizabeth - the gumnuts are most certainly hollow. I have made wooden tops for some of mine and I "store" water in those. The woven top ones could be used to store all sorts of grains I guess!? As far as the trolley is concerned, I want to weave some baskets like the ones I saw at the York Railway Museum. They are larger than luggage and if I can find the pics I have I will try and remember to post them. The work on those baskets won't start until after my next trip to New Zealand which is in July! There definitely are not enough days in a week or hours in a day....for me at least!!!
    Cheers - Lidi
